Cal Stanley is a retired professional after a 44-year career in youth development, an alumnus of Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland (BGCO), and a product of the Oakland Public Schools. As a 5th grader at Oakland’s Highland School, Cal accepted a classmate’s invitation to come to the Club. That was fall, 1967. The rest, as they say, is history.
For the past 31 years Cal has served as BGCO’s President & CEO, helping the staff and board to fulfill the organization’s mission, to develop our community’s youth into positive contributors to society for thousands of kids and teens.
Cal is forever grateful to numerous stakeholders like the Warriors whose philanthropic objectives he and BGCO were engaged to help bring about over the years… such as achieving higher graduation rates; higher college matriculation rates; and greater total numbers of youth served from year to year.
To those ends, on Cal’s watch BGCO rebuilt and modernized the Ossian E. Carr Branch (the East Oakland Clubhouse that Cal attended in his youth) and established the flagship Anna Marie Whalen Branch on High Street in an underserved Central East Oakland community where no Clubhouse previously existed.
