Tremaine Moore, Principal of Claremont Middle School, has served children and families in the Oakland Unified School District for over 29 years. Tremaine believes that his purpose is to serve others and to be a motivator for children and youth to help them see the greatness within themselves and to encourage them to let nothing or nobody stop them from achieving their goals.
Tremaine’s impact on the lives of children and youth has been demonstrated as a classroom teacher and principal. As an educator, Tremaine’s impact not only involved the teaching of various subject matters, but also building foundational academic skills in a nurturing, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Equally important is Tremaine’s ability to support students with identifying their leadership skills and increasing their self-esteem. As principal, Tremaine oversees the day-to-day operations of the school which involves balancing budgets, managing the school facility, retaining highly qualified teachers, and developing relationships between families and the community.
Outside of the classroom,Tremaine feels that it is his obligation to pour love and joy into others through community service. He supports local non-profit organizations by serving and distributing food and toys during the holidays, collecting and distributing school supplies for students, and setting up toiletries and clothing drives for families. In addition to the tremendous task of being a middle school principal and supporting non-profit organizations, Tremaine currently serves at St. Leo the Great School in Oakland as a volunteer CYO coach of boys and girl’s basketball, as well as, dance/cheer choreographer. Tremaine also manages to find the time to volunteer at his son’s high school, St. Mary’s College High School, as a volunteer basketball coach.
