Willie Davis

December 3, 2022

Willie has been a daily fixture at Lincoln Square Park in Oakland Chinatown for nearly 20 years. He is an Impact Warrior and a local hero to so many because he has helped make the beloved park welcoming to everyone, and has taught generations of youth from different backgrounds and neighborhoods to play together, to work out problems in real-time, and to care for the space like it’s their home away from home.

Davis, was honored this past June as a Black Hero of Chinatown, at a national awards program in Chicago, Illinois, hosted by People Matters to invest in the solidarity of Black and Asian relationships across the nation. Davis was nominated by the Wa Sung Community Service Club and the Friends of Lincoln Square Park, two community-based Oakland Chinatown organizations.
